Haweswater Half	6 Mar Sun 11:30	-	13m	Haweswater Half Marathon. From Bampton Village Hall, near. Haweswater, Penrith. This is an excellent scenic route - in the eastern heart of the Lake District - from North take jct 40 off M6 (Penrith), take A66 east to next roundabout then A6 south for half mile. Then turn right following Pooley Bridge and Ullswater, then follow Askham, Helton and Bampton signs. From south, take jct 39 at Shap - go north on A6 through Shap village then fork left following Haweswater and Bampton. Road is narrow and slow! Allow plenty of time. Baildon Boundary	10 Apr Sun 09:30	-	Half	Postal entries only now. Scenic route taking in woods, canal towpaths and moors, well marked and marshalled. Event open to runners and walkers. Sorry, but the course is not suitable for wheelchairs and strictly no dogs are allowed on the route. Showers and changing facilities available. Bar and food available. Guisely Gallop MT	24 Apr Sun 10:30	-	10k aprx	West Side Retail Park, Guiseley, Leeds LS20 9NE. Tracks, paths, Leeds-Liverpool Canal towpath, road, past Emmerdale's Woolpack in Esholt. Airedale Triple Trail Series race 2/3. 2009 entry fees: £7/£9 + £2 on day (to 'Skyrac AC') (+£1 results) Min age 17, c/d 6/4. "The course starts near the railway bridge in Esholt woods and descends through the woods via tracks and paths to Esholt water treatment works. It then goes to the River Aire via a works road and path to a suspension bridge. Once across the river the path joins the Leeds Liverpool canal towpath which is followed for approx 1.5 miles passing a set of locks and going under a railway bridge. At the first swing bridge after the locks the route leaves the canal and re-crosses the river via a track and footbridge. A short section of road leads to Esholt village is then followed by a climb back up through Esholt woods using paths and tracks to the finish at the rear of the Retail Park." Mallerstang Horseshoe & Nine Standards Yomp	?? Jun Sun 08:00	-	23m	From Kirkby Stephen Grammar School (NGR 772088). Over fell land, bog and scree and the full course rises to over 650m in three places. The Full Yomp involves a walk, or run, over 23 miles of beautiful Cumbrian fells in the Upper Eden Valley near Kirkby Stephen. LIONS Hare and Tortoise	?? Jun Thu 18:45	-	??	Club Race from Heath. Hare and Tortoise race. A pair race. We line up. Fastest at one end and slowest at the other. Move Aileen up at least thirty places. Pair off from each end. One of each pair is given a baton. We have a circular course. All the Fastest from each pair set of in one direction along the course, and the slower runners from each pair all go off in the other direction. All runners must try to remember who they are paired off with. Each pair will meet at some point on the course, pass over the baton, turn around, and set off back the way they came. The time for each pair is set by the time of the second runner from that pair to arrive home. Works far better than the explanation. You will have earned your pint.

LIONS Fastest 10k ever - Probably	1 Jul Thu 18:30	-	10k	Our Very Own - an early Thursday run downhill-all-the-way from beyond Saddleworth Bridge. Go as fast as you ever have done, and as fast as you ever will ever again. Probably the best run ever for the club. This run will involve no (up)hills, and will not be steady. Honest! LIONS Slowest 10k Ever - Probably	1 Jul Thu 18:30	-	10k	You know you want it, but daredn't admit. An early Thursday run uphill-all-the-way on Saddleworth Road. Go as far as you ever have done uphill without a break (no brakes needed). This will be entirely self-timed. Anyone getting a time sub 40 minutes will forever be viewed with substantial suspicion. Remember to hide your smug and superior smile when greeting other members of the club coming downhill. You can always go faster later. 995ft of climb. Entries on the day welcome. Howgill/Lune Valley	?? Jul Sun 13:00	-	10m	This 10 mile road run, with over £900 in prizes starts and finishes at the People's Hall Playing Field, Howgill Lane, Sedbergh. The route is one of the most challenging and scenic road races in England, taking in parts of the Lune Valley then up into the beautiful Howgills where the hilly single track road will test the best of road runners. There will be free food and after race refreshments for all competitors. Car parking for participents will be allocated in the town on the day. Starts from Main Street Haworth BD22 8DW GR 032374). One of the few marathon races which says from the start that you will be forgiven for walking. I cannot think why. Closing date Monday 7th September. No entries on the day. Haworth takes car parking seriously - so should you. 2009 review: "Yorkshireman was fantastic! New Balance English Half Marathon	3 Oct Sun 09:00	-	13m	Entries Close 12 September. Half Marathon at Victoria Park, Warrington. The race will start from Victoria Park in Warrington before heading into the town centre and out to the communities to the south of Warrington, then returning back to Victoria Park for the finish. Harewood	03 Oct Sun 10:00	-	10m	DATE CHANGED! A popular race with members. The 10 mile race is on footpaths and bridle paths including parts of the Leeds Country Way, Dales Way and Ebor Way. The route is traffic-free, half in the Harewood House estate, half around Eccup Reservoir and passes Emmerdale Village. Short road section. Can be muddy. Wear trail shoes. Snowdonia Marathon	23 Oct Sat 10:30	-	26.2 m	Snowdonia Marathon - 2010 FULL - From the start at Nant Peris (300ft) the route follows the A4086 and climbs to the top of the Llanberis Pass (Pen y Pass 1,100ft). It follows the A498 to Beddgelert (200ft) and there continues along the A4085 to Waunfawr. From here it is a rapid climb to about 1,200ft at Bwlch y Groes (a short length is unmetalled) and then downhill to the finish in Llanberis. The most scenic race in the UK. For all Grand Prix events, you are expected to wear a Stainlands Lions Vest. We do not list every race. There are much better and more complete sites (see the clubs/links section below) which will always list more runs, and I have no desire to try to compete with them. Even so, if you want to enter a race and to encourage other members to join you, send me the details, and I will (usually) add them. For more details see YVAA Fell races are shown eg 6m/2000' - which means 6 miles with 2000 feet of climb. Fell racers do neither metric nor nettles. Each Fell Race is classified. You need to know the classification before you enter. Take care also that many such races have dress codes. The status of any race can change from day to day. Please re-check with the organisers before making any decisions. Please notify me of any errors or additions. I will in future give postcodes for locations where we can. To get a map, copy the postcode, and paste it into the search bar here on Google maps or (often better) Multimap. Personally I would recommend being wary of those races who give a Grid reference to get you to the start. Such numbers are outwith the skills of both Google and Multimap.
